Terminal server host applications may intermittently stop responding in Windows 2000

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows 2000, terminal server host applications, such as Microsoft Office and Microsoft SQL Server client applications, may intermittently stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a deadlock between the redirector and the cache manager.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.

Prerequisites

You must have Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 or Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
